Chapter 16
The Golden Gleam Beyond the Archway
Thursday, September 26th, 42nd Year of the Canopy

Nutmeg spotted a strange metallic reflection near the brass key in the secret room, drawing the friends toward a faint golden gleam behind the open brass archway.
The Light in the Dark
The autumn air outside the hollow trunk was quiet, but inside the secret room, the five friends were wide awake and full of wonder. Nutmeg held one of the glowing acorn-cap lamps up high. She wanted to shine more light into the dark space waiting just beyond the open brass archway. A tiny speck of golden dust drifted right out of the opening. It sparkled in the warm yellow light before floating gently down to the mossy floor.
Barnaby stepped forward on tiptoe. His soft whiskers twitched with curiosity as he peered into the shadowy opening. Bramble and Pip leaned in close beside him. They wondered aloud what kind of tiny treasures might be hiding in the secret chamber. Every friend took a turn peeking through the small brass door frame, their eyes shining with excitement as the faint golden gleam grew a little brighter in the dim space.
Across the Threshold
Pip and Clover decided it was time to take a closer look. They placed their paws down carefully and stepped right past the open brass archway into the chamber beyond. Inside the small room, a gentle golden light danced along the smooth stone walls. It reflected off tiny crystals tucked deep inside the ancient oak wood, making the whole place glow like a tiny palace.
Back in the secret room, Bramble, Nutmeg, and Barnaby watched their friends with bated breath. They leaned in as far as they could, whispering softly to each other while Pip and Clover took another slow step forward into the mysterious light. The golden glow shimmered around them, hinting at even more secrets waiting to be discovered just out of reach.
