Chapter 15
The Golden Gleam Behind the Brass Archway
Thursday, September 26th, 42nd Year of the Canopy

Barnaby bounced right back up from his chair with a startled giggle, sending the five friends into fits of cheerful laughter that echoed softly against the ancient oak roots.
Outside the high library window, a gentle afternoon breeze sent golden leaves swirling down past the ancient oak tree. Inside the secret room, the air was quiet and peaceful. Pip, Bramble, Nutmeg, Clover, and Barnaby sat comfortably upon their newly stitched dandelion silk cushions around the smooth stone table. A stray puff of dandelion fluff drifted down from one of the plump cushions, floating lazily across the room before landing softly on the flat stone table.
Barnaby reached out a tiny paw to catch it, smiling as the soft seed head bobbed in the warm light of the glowing acorn-cap lamps. The friends shared a quiet moment of rest, listening to the soft rustle of oak leaves overhead while watching dust motes dance in the golden glow.
The bright afternoon sun climbed higher into the branches of the ancient oak tree. A gentle breeze sneaks through the open library window, carrying the crisp, earthy scent of fallen leaves and warm tree bark. Inside the secret room, the steady breeze made the tiny flames inside the glowing acorn-cap lamps flicker and dance.
Pip, Bramble, Nutmeg, Clover, and Barnaby paused from their resting to watch the golden light stretch across the smooth stone table. Bramble reached out to steady a wobbly lamp, while Nutmeg gathered the loose parchment scrolls so they would not flutter away in the draft.
As the afternoon light softened outside the hollow oak, Nutmeg spotted an unusual reflection coming from the inner chamber. A stray sunbeam caught something small and metallic resting right beside the brass key, drawing the curious friends closer to investigate a faint golden gleam peeking from behind the open brass archway.
