Chapter 29
The Dandelion Stitch and the Rainy Hum
Friday, September 27th, 42nd Year of the Canopy

While gentle autumn rain drummed against the ancient oak and pooled near the outer bark wall, the animal friends rested safely together inside the cozy secret room.
Inside the secret room, the steady sound of autumn rain drumming on the bark roof filled the cozy space. Barnaby sat near the damp outer wall, covered in golden dust with whiskers twitching softly, carefully mending a small tear in a strip of woven dandelion silk with a tiny bone needle. As he worked, he hums a low, comforting village tune, watching the grey droplets race down the tiny window-crevice in the bark.
As Barnaby continued stitching the dandelion silk patch near the damp bark wall, Pip heard the familiar melody and softly added his own whistle to the tune. The music blended neatly with the patter of the weather outside. The two friends shared a quiet smile while the steady autumn rain kept up its gentle drumming on the roof above, leaving the rest of the group resting warm and dry until the next shift in the weather.
