Chapter 22
Golden Leaves and the Autumn Wind
Thursday, September 26th, 42nd Year of the Canopy

Barnaby let out a funny, squeaky sneeze from Bramble's nutty dust, sending everyone into giggles while the amber floor hummed a quiet tune.
Sunlight and Dancing Motes
The golden afternoon light filtered through the thick canopy of leaves at the top of the ancient oak. As the sun warmed the bark outside, a gentle autumn breeze rustled the outer leaves. It carried the rich, sweet scent of roasting hazelnut bits through the secret room.
Pip and Clover paused from their cheerful counting song for a quiet moment. They sat close together and watched tiny dust motes dance in the warm sunbeams. Jasper the squirrel curled his fluffy tail comfortably against the smooth stone table, feeling right at home among his new friends.
Whispering Branches in the Canopy
A short while later, a stronger gust of wind swept through the high branches. The autumn wind played a soft melody through the hollow wood of the ancient oak tree.
Golden leaves danced past the secret room entrance. The swirling amber leaves drifted right past the open brass archway, filling the cozy hideout with a fresh scent of rain and fallen pine needles. Pip, Bramble, Nutmeg, Clover, Barnaby, and Jasper all paused their tea sharing to watch the acorn-cap lamps sway gently, wondering what adventures the changing season might bring next.
