Chapter 24
The Sticky Resin and the Tangled Silk
Thursday, September 26th, 42nd Year of the Canopy

As the golden light outside began to fade into deep orange and purple shades, the friends curled up together on the soft moss cushions, wondering what quiet discoveries tomorrow might bring.
The Western Wall Mishap
The afternoon light in the secret room was warm and golden, but a small patch of ground near the western wall felt cold and wet. A tiny leak from a knot in the outer bark was making the floor moss soft and squishy. Bramble the hedgehog picked up the freshly braided dandelion silk safety line. He needed to carry it closer to the amber chamber tunnel so everyone could use it for the next big adventure. But as he walked across the damp green fibers, his paw slipped on the slick moss.
Bramble stumbled softly against the smooth stone table. The heavy bundle of dandelion silk rolled right out of his paws and landed in the shadows near the leaky wall. Nutmeg and Clover hurried over right away. Nutmeg brought tiny acorn-cap cups filled with dry moss to mop up the stray drops of water before any more supplies could get damp. Kneeling down by the western wall, Nutmeg checked the fallen bundle. She gently untangled the soft woven fibers from a sharp piece of bark, making sure no threads were torn before rolling the line back up into a neat coil.
Patching and Untangling
With the safety line set aside, Clover and Barnaby decided it was time to fix the leaky bark knot once and for all. Barnaby pulled a small ball of sticky, sweet-smelling pine resin from his dandelion silk pouch. Together, Clover and Barnaby pressed the soft resin firmly into the tiny hole in the outer wall. The sticky amber gum sealed the slow drip of water tight, leaving the moss underneath safe and dry.
Back on the smooth stone floor near the western wall, Clover tried to wind another bundle of dandelion silk into a neat circle for the amber chamber exploration. Just then, a sudden flutter of bird wings at the outer window startled her. Her paws slipped, and the soft white fibers pulled together into a hopeless, messy knot. Barnaby and Bramble sat right down beside her on the floor. Using their small paws and gentle claws, they worked together to tease apart the delicate threads loop by loop until the dandelion silk was smooth and ready once more. As the room grew quiet again, the friends smiled at each other, knowing the path ahead was safe and waiting for whatever tomorrow would bring.
