Chapter 35
The Golden Yarn and the Dappled Floor
Friday, September 27th, 42nd Year of the Canopy

Nutmeg unrolls a parchment map showing a forgotten tunnel loop beneath the roots, revealing that the ancient oak holds even more secret pathways.
The steady autumn rain taps gently against the outer bark of the ancient oak, turning the cozy secret room into a warm and dry haven. Sitting by the smooth stone table, Bramble the hedgehog reaches for a basket of spun dandelion yarn to finish a cozy neck-wrap for the chilly days ahead. As the hedgehog pulls a length of soft golden thread, a playful gust of damp air drifts up from the floor crack and catches the loose ball.
The red dandelion yarn begins to roll quickly across the uneven stone tiles with surprising speed. Bramble drops his knitting needles in alarm and lunges forward, but his quills bump lightly against the bench leg. Just as the woolen ball nears the dark gap where the cool root draft rises, Barnaby calmly lifts his teacup, sets it aside, and places his golden-dusted paw directly over the tumbling yarn to halt its escape. With a collective sigh of relief around the table, the yarn is safely secured, leaving the friends to smile and return to their quiet afternoon tasks while the storm whispers against the wood outside.
