Chapter 24
A Clinking Key and Tick-Tock Confetti
Wednesday, May 13, 2026
With the little mice safely comforted, the locket happily returned to its rightful owner, and the sunny garden buzzed with quiet excitement over what afternoon games might begin next.
The Garden Key Hunt
The garden was full of warm sunshine and the sweet smell of damp earth. Pumpkin the hedgehog scurried over to Sheshah, Lilly, Blossom, and Dino, his little paws twitching with joy. He held out his paws and thanked everyone from the bottom of his heart for finding his special locket and keeping it safe. Everyone smiled and patted his soft quills, glad to see him so happy. As they chatted near the edge of the vegetable patch, Sheshah spotted something glinting in the emerald grass. It was another tiny metal key, no bigger than a ladybug. Right after that, Dino stretched his long neck over the squash leaves and blinked his big, friendly eyes. He nudged a hidden spot with his snout and uncovered yet another one of Pumpkin's lockets tucked neatly under a broad leaf. The group cheered softly and handed the newly found locket straight back to Pumpkin, who beamed from ear to ear. Feeling full of bounce and adventure, Sheshah, Lilly, Blossom, Dino, and Pumpkin decided to band together. They set off on a joyful search across the lawn to see what secret boxes or little doors their handful of shiny keys might actually open.
Pipkin's Tick-Tock Surprise
After searching near the flowerbeds, Pipkin the clockmaker waved his tiny paw and invited Sheshah, Lilly, Blossom, and Dino to follow him. He led the eager group right over to his cozy, moss-covered clock shop nestled snuggly inside the thick green garden hedge. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, making the brass gears and pendulum swings sparkle like amber. Pipkin carefully took the tiny metallic key from Sheshah's paw, his whiskers twitching with hopeful concentration. He tiptoed up to his large, polished brass grandfather clock that stood proudly against the wooden walls of the shop. With a gentle twist, he tried to fit the tiny key into the clock's side door. The key turned smoothly, but instead of clicking open with a normal latch sound, the big clock gave a cheerful, hiccuping chime. Suddenly, a fluffy cloud of harmless, tick-tock confetti burst out from the keyhole in a flurry of silver and gold paper stars. Sheshah gasped in surprise, and Dino let out a deep, rumbling belly laugh that shook the nearby leaves. The sparkling confetti drifted slowly down around their shoulders, turning the tiny clock shop into a magical wonderland of paper stars and giggles, leaving everyone wondering what other secrets the garden might hold as the afternoon breeze carried the chime away.
