Chapter 23
A Musical Locket and the Garden Hedgehog
Wednesday, May 13, 2026
With a happy grin, Dino sat up happily in the squash patch and offered the shiny golden locket to Sheshah, wondering what adventure might unfold next.
The Golden Locket and the Frightened Mice
The sun shone warmly across the green garden paths, where Sheshah fluttered her soft puppy wings and gently picked up the shiny golden locket in her teeth, being very careful not to scratch it. With a joyful wag of her tail, she carried it across the sunny path to show Lilly and Blossom, tilting her head from side to side as she wondered out loud if this pretty piece of jewelry might belong to someone at the royal castle.
While they inspected the locket together, a sudden rustle came from beneath a nearby pumpkin. A group of tiny, wide-eyed mice scurried out of sight, trembling under the orange rind. Lilly and Blossom knelt down softly in the dirt to comfort the little creatures, speaking in gentle whispers. The mice squeaked in tiny, worried voices that Yucksta the witch had returned to the castle grounds and was searching everywhere for a lost magic book, making everyone want to stay very quiet.
To help the frightened animals feel safe, Sheshah flapped her wings softly in reassurance, while Fernanda used a sprinkle of her sparkly fairy dust to wrap the pumpkin patch in a warm, cozy glow. That was when a cheerful rustling began in the garden hedge, and a very distinguished little visitor trotted out onto the path.
Pipkin's Pocket Locket and a Sweet Tune
Hearing all the friendly chatter near the pumpkin patch, a little hedgehog named Pipkin scurried out from the greenery. He wore a tiny waistcoat and a tall velvet top hat, and he carried a shiny brass pocket watch that ticked with a happy rhythm. Pipkin announced in a bright, cheerful voice that he was the castle clockmaker, and that he had been looking everywhere for his special pocket locket that had blown away during yesterday's breezy afternoon.
Sitting up happily in the squash patch nearby, Dino the dinosaur offered the shiny trinket over to Sheshah with a friendly, rumbling smile. Sheshah's black puppy nose twitched with curiosity as she took the locket between her paws. When she pressed the tiny heart clasp, the locket popped open with a gentle click and played a sweet, tinkling musical box tune that floated right across the garden.
The lovely melody drifted through the leaves and caught the attention of another little woodland friend named Pip, a small and cheerful garden hedgehog with bright button eyes and a striped cap. Pip waddled out from beneath a broad rhubarb leaf to join the circle, wagging his nose as he listened to the delightful music.
With the little mice safely comforted, the locket happily returned to its rightful owner, and the sunny garden buzzed with quiet excitement over what afternoon games might begin next.
