Shattered Shackles and Smoking Archives
Twenty-Sixth of Frostfall, 412th Year of the Ember Concordat

As Commander Varis and his elite enforcers closed in to execute Kaelen and Lyra in the subterranean cells, a bloody clash erupted across the stone floor while Master Pendaran harbored the explosive secret of the severance rite.
The Siphon Breaks
Amidst the violent clang of steel and shouts echoing through the damp subterranean holding cells, Master Pendaran seized the opening created by Kaelen and Lyra's fierce resistance. Pressing himself hard against the cold stone partition while Commander Varis engaged the guards, Pendaran pulled Lady Vespera's personal ledger from beneath his wool mantle. With a swift, whispered chant and a drop of his own blood pressed against the parchment's binding seal, he triggered the counter-resonance hidden within the blood-attunement notes. A sharp flash of silver light rippled across the cell block, snapping the heavy iron stasis cuffs binding Kaelen and Lyra's wrists and instantly restoring their dormant magic just as Varis turned his icy gaze toward the breach.
The heavy iron bands binding Kaelen's wrists flared with a blinding white surge of unsealed magic as Pendaran's activation took hold. With a sharp crack of fractured metal, the cuffs fell away, and Kaelen surged forward, catching a falling blade mid-air with his bare, scarred hands. Beside him, Lyra let out a fierce, liberated breath as her own suppression rings dissolved into glowing embers, her fingers igniting with reclaimed fae fire that beat back the advancing wall of obsidian steel. Commander Varis stumbled back in utter disbelief as the prisoners they came to execute rose with terrifying, unleashed power, their movements a blur of lethal grace and vengeance. Blow for blow, the tide of the skirmish turned, leaving the enforcers scrambling to defend themselves against the very magic they had been sent to extinguish.
Smoke and Sanctuary
A short time later, as chaotic alarms echoed through the high stone corridors of the citadel, Master Pendaran retreated in frantic haste into his private study. Smoke billowed thickly from the iron brazier in the dimly lit alcove as he frantically fed the first torn, incriminating fragments of Lady Vespera's personal ledger into the hungry flames, watching the silver ink curl and blacken into ash.
The heavy oak door creaked open with a soft groan, and Bronwen slipped inside from the drafty hallway, breathless and clutching a heavy bundle of master keys she had looted from the lower guardhouse during the general panic. Recognizing that their individual fates were now inextricably bound to Pendaran's treason and the unraveling court, she offered to guide him through the secret servants' passages toward the outer bastions before Lady Vespera realized her private ledger had been utterly compromised. Pendaran locked eyes with the young servant, realizing that the walls around them were closing in faster than the fire could consume the evidence—leaving them standing on the precipice of an irreversible war.
