Unrest, Tremors, and Blood in the Borderlands
Mid Spring of the 15th Year of the Obsidian Tide
As traditionalist elders and aggressive war chiefs locked horns in Oakhaven, the western clans fractured completely, leaving the archipelago paralyzed while the continental war drummed ever louder.
The Eastern Forges and the Boiling Sea
As the warmth of mid-spring settled over the continent during the fifteenth year of the Obsidian Tide, the crushing economic toll of the military alliance finally shattered civilian patience across the eastern valley federation. With every available ounce of iron completely diverted to manufacture weapons for the joint vanguard of Clan Vane and the Tribe of the Red Ridge, local smithies remained shuttered and cold. Civilian communities found themselves entirely unable to repair broken agricultural tools ahead of the crucial planting season. Tensions boiled over in the central valley town of Ironhollow, where local smiths and disgruntled laborers bolted shut the doors of the municipal armories and confronted Pact quartermasters face-to-face, demanding the immediate return of essential iron implements before simmering discontent erupted into open rebellion.
Further toward the foaming shores, the maritime crisis along the Atani Coast took a catastrophic turn as the deep ocean trenches suffered a violent escalation in underwater seismic activity. Following weeks of sickly green bioluminescent pulses, a series of sharp, rolling tremors fractured the ocean floor, sending subterranean heat plumes venting directly into the shallow straits. Marine priests stationed along the coastal precipice watched in mounting horror as boiling plumes of mineral-rich water rose to the surface, driving massive schools of panicked fish ashore and drastically intensifying the terrifying migration of blind, serpentine leviathans into near-shore waters.
Blood in the Mist of the Borderlands
A short time later, deep within the fog-choked forests of the contested borderland known as the Border of Whispers, the war for the ancient power turned intensely personal and brutal. Seeking violent payback for an earlier scouting ambush at a freshwater spring, a heavily armed southern scouting column pushed deep into the mist-shrouded canopy of the ravine. Slipping past crude tripwires and concealed spike traps left by local irregulars, the expedition stumbled directly into a fortified treehouse encampment held by guerrilla defenders. A bloody melee erupted in the blinding white mists of the canopy, echoing with the clash of steel and the cries of the fallen as neither side showed any quarter in the choking fog. Yet even as blood soaked the roots of the ancient trees, the tremors of the deep and the silent revolt in the eastern valleys whispered of a much larger reckoning yet to come.
