Chapter 7
A Wish Upon the Evening Star
Sunday, October 18, 2026
Previously, in Alien Adventures, Knut found a smooth wooden stick in the upside-down forest to use as a wand, ready to pop the floating bubbles and steer Moonship home.
Pop went the giant bubbles, and whoosh went the skies! With a happy swirl through the rainbow wormhole, Knut steered Moonship right back into familiar clouds. The little round spaceship glided gently down over the green hill, landing with a soft thump right beside their cozy dome home.
"We made it!" cheered Dinkabel. Her bright rainbow skin glowed with delight, and her square head bobbed with excitement as she hopped down the metal ramp. Together, with a mighty heave-ho, Knut and Dinkabel unhitched the enormous Martian shell they had carried across the stars. It was bumpy, chalky white, and wonderfully grand. They rolled it carefully into the front garden, nestling it deep into the dark, welcoming soil right beside the front door. It looked like it had belonged there forever.
To celebrate their safe return, Knut and Dinkabel invited all their neighborhood friends over for an outdoor feast. A long wooden table was set out under the velvety evening sky, laden with platters of crunchy sweet tubers, bowls of sparkling melon cubes, and warm honey biscuits. Knut sat at the head of the table in his favorite cozy underpant spacesuit, his pink heart-shaped head radiating a warm, happy aura as laughter echoed across the lawn.
In the middle of the feast, a sudden hush washed over the garden. The crickets went quiet. The leaves stopped rustling. From behind the tall garden ferns stepped a magnificent unicorn. Its coat was as bright as fresh cream, its hooves were polished mother-of-pearl, and its silvery mane rippled like running water. With a gentle toss of its head, the unicorn trotted into the center of the grass and began to dance.
It was the prettiest dance anyone had ever seen. The unicorn tapped its hooves in rhythm, spun gracefully in circles, and leapt high over the flowerbeds. Dinkabel clapped her hands, and all the guests cheered with wide, joyful smiles. Around and around the giant white shell it twirled, sparkling brighter and brighter with every step.
Then, right at the end of its grand leap, a soft tinkling chime rang through the cool air. The unicorn froze mid-step. Its silver mane stiffened into frosty ribbons. A sheet of clear, sparkling ice rushed across its velvety flanks and spiral horn, turning the magnificent creature into a solid, frozen statue. Everyone gasped in shock. Dinkabel’s round eyes went wide with worry, and a little murmur of sadness rippled through the gathering.
"Don't worry, little friend," Knut whispered softly. "We will help you."
Knut reached out and took Dinkabel’s warm hand. Their dinner guests joined hands too, forming a big circle around the icy unicorn. Together, they squeezed their eyes tightly shut and looked up at the brightest star winking in the twilight sky. With all their hearts, they wished for a kind fairy godmother to show them how to save their new friend.
A gentle lavender shimmer brightened the cool evening air. Floating down from the starlight came a fairy godmother, her smile gentle and her presence full of quiet comfort. She hovered near the icy unicorn, murmuring soft words of encouragement to the worried circle.
