The Canopy Lullaby and the Dream-Dust Drift
Year 1 of the Rainbow Era, Spring Noon
After their sweet dewdrop nectar picnic, Chloe and her fairy friends rested in the high branches of The Chime Cove Canopy, drifting off to gentle lullabies sung by the Flutter-Flutes.
The midday sun poured a warm, golden honey over the high branches of The Chime Cove Canopy, turning every trembling leaf into a translucent emerald shield. High above the crystal waters below, Chloe curled comfortably against a cushion of velvety moss, her long pink hair spilling across the bark like spilled strawberry silk. Atop her head, her sparkling rainbow daisy crown caught stray shafts of light, casting miniature prisms that danced softly across her freckled nose with every slow, peaceful breath she took.
Beside her, Pip and Blossom had folded their shimmering gossamer wings, tucking themselves snugly into the cozy folds of Chloe's pink jacket. The sparkling dewdrop nectar from their recent picnic had left them blissfully content, and a sweet, drowsy quiet settled over the group. Around them, the tiny musical insects known as the Flutter-Flutes settled onto the surrounding twigs, their delicate legs tapping out a slow, rhythmic cadence that seemed to mimic the gentle beating of tiny hearts.
Then, the Flutter-Flutes began to sing. Their voices were like the chiming of silver bells heard through a soft wall of summer rain, weaving together a wordless, winding melody that drifted through the high canopy like a rising mist. Tiny flecks of iridescent dream-dust drifted down from their beating wings, sparkling with faint violet and gold hues as they floated through the warm air.
As the lullaby worked its gentle magic, Chloe's eyelids grew heavy, her fingers loosening their grip on a fallen petal ribbon. The cares of the morning—the chasing of chime bubbles and the weaving of floral streamers—melted away into the soothing hum of the cove. Hand in hand with her fairy friends, adrift in a haze of sparkling dream-dust, she slipped deeper into the quiet safety of sleep, unaware of what soft wonders the afternoon breeze might bring when she finally opened her eyes.
