Tides of Upheaval and Abyssal Heat
Late Summer of the 15th Year of the Obsidian Tide
Captain Kaelen rallied an autonomous defense coalition from the lower docks of Oakhaven to break the western islands' paralysis, while continental forces struggled against internal sabotage and waking marine terrors.
Maritime Patrols and Seismic Shocks
Amidst the legislative paralysis that had crippled the western island clans, the vacuum of leadership was filled from the salt-crusted docks of Oakhaven. Taking direct command of the independent sea captains and seasoned garrison veterans who refused to let the archipelago rot in inaction, Captain Kaelen deployed the newly formed Oakhaven defense coalition's fleet into the mist-shrouded shallow straits. Operating with pragmatic urgency, the coalition vessels began regular patrol sweeps to protect vulnerable civilian fishing boats and isolated harbor settlements from the blind, serpentine leviathans that had pressed upward from the agitated deep trenches. These patrols brought a fragile semblance of order back to the frozen docks, giving desperate mariners a fighting chance against the beasts prowling the murky waters.
Far across the mainland in the contested corridors of the Border of Whispers, a different kind of pressure was building from the earth itself. To feed the relentless appetite of the frontline vanguard, Pact artificers kept their mobile geothermal smelting furnace running at peak capacity, drawing intense, roaring heat directly from the shifting tectonic plumes below. Yet this unchecked energy draw came with a heavy cost. Continuous heavy operation of the forge triggered violent localized seismic tremors that shook the surrounding landscape, threatening the structural integrity of the newly fortified watchtowers. Deep cracks spiderwebbed across the stone foundations as the earth groaned beneath the machinery, placing both the heavy military hardware and the garrisoned troops at immediate risk from collapsing ground.
Refuge on the High Cliffs
Further along the storm-battered Atani Coast, the natural world continued its violent rejection of human encroachment. Driven by the relentless surge of agitated serpentine leviathans and scalding, chemically scorched water temperatures rising straight from the churning deep trenches, the remaining marine priests made the grim decision to abandon their lower coastal shrines entirely. Permanently forsaking the wave-lashed shorelines where they had worshipped for generations, the priesthood hauled their sacred texts and ritual implements up the sheer rock faces. Settling upon the mist-shrouded high granite peaks, they established a permanent mountainside redoubt, looking down upon the boiling, sickly green shallows below as they prepared to conduct round-the-clock placation rituals against whatever ancient power was slowly rousing in the dark depths.
