Subterranean Awakenings, Acoustic Recalibration, and Foothill Mutinies
Mid Spring of the 17th Year of the Obsidian Tide
Besieged by internal insurrection and haunted by muffled mechanical echoes from the deep bedrock, the Obsidian Pact command weighed whether to launch a devastating assault or risk losing their vital metalworking crucibles to the rebels.
The Awakening Beneath Ironhollow
Deep within the fractured, soot-stained bedrock of Ironhollow, master metal-carver Corin Vance and his crew of independent syndicate laborers sought to secure secondary subterranean tunnels away from the ongoing surface siege. While prying at a stubborn, ancient partition, they breached a massive pre-tribal bulkhead that had remained sealed for ages. Instead of long-lost stores or utilitarian armaments, the lantern light fell upon rows of pre-tribal mechanical automata slowly grinding to life, powered by rhythmic geothermal heat plumes pulsing from the earth below. The workers realized with mounting horror that their excavation had disturbed a dormant mechanized host. Scrambling in the dark, Corin and his men were forced to urgently weld shut the heavy iron vault doors, desperately trying to contain the waking menace while avoiding the notice of both the Obsidian Pact besiegers above and the suspicious insurgent patrols prowling the lower alleys.
Acoustic Recalibration in the Western Straits
Far across the salt-washed waters of the western archipelago, Captain Kaelen's coalition naval commanders confronted a different kind of awakening. Following violent clashes where high-frequency acoustic emissions had paradoxically drawn blind sea predators into a frenzy, Kaelen coordinated closely with Oakhaven merchant guilds and master artificers. Across the slipways of Oakhaven shipyards, an emergency refitting program was initiated. Heavy bronze patrol galleys were hauled ashore so artisans could painstakingly modify the sonic-repulsion engines. By dampening the harsh high notes and introducing a deeper, irregular pulse, the artificers sought a safe acoustic window that would repel the serpentine leviathans without infuriating them, striving to keep the western trade routes viable before total maritime isolation set in.
Protests and Pickets at the Red Ridge Foothills
Meanwhile, back on the mainland near the foothills of Red Ridge, the civilian strain reached a boiling point. Displaced valley farming communities, utterly devastated by prolonged supply failures, bitter weather, and strict military rationing enforced by Clan Vane and Red Ridge commanders, staged a coordinated mass march. The mutinous families broke past auxiliary picket lines at the Red Ridge logging camps, converging directly upon the regional distribution storehouses. Waving makeshift banners and demanding equitable food redistribution from the beleaguered quartermasters, the crowd pushed garrison guards to the absolute brink of armed confrontation. As the quartermasters frantically marshaled their remaining loyal troops to hold the gates, civil order across the eastern approaches threatened to fracture completely under the weight of hunger.
